How do I send you handwriting or a fingerprint?

Short answer

Take a photo on your phone and upload it as you make your piece: the handwriting, flat and square-on, or a fingerprint you've inked at home onto plain white paper. There's nothing to post. A person checks every mark and sends you a proof before anything is engraved.

Handwriting

  1. Lay the card or letter flat near a window, out of direct sun.
  2. Hold your phone straight above it, with the words you want filling the screen.
  3. Turn the flash off, tap the ink to focus, and take the photo.

A fingerprint

We engrave a fingerprint from an ink print on paper: it gives the cleanest ridges. Any ink pad or washable marker will do.

  1. Wash and dry the finger, then ink it lightly: one press on an ink pad, or colour the pad of the finger with a washable marker.
  2. Roll it once onto plain white paper, from one side of the nail to the other, without pressing hard.
  3. Make three or four, and photograph the clearest flat and square-on, in daylight, without flash.

Already have one?

A print from a hospital or a funeral director, or a card you've kept, works too. Photograph it the same way. You never need to post us the original.

Sending it

  1. Start your piece, choose the ring, then choose handwriting or fingerprint.
  2. Upload the photo from your camera roll. We keep the original untouched.
  3. If it needs another go, we tell you why before anything is made.

Aim for: clear, close and square-on
Try again: faint or far away

Use daylight without glare. Make sure the smallest lines are sharp before uploading. We preserve the mark you send; we do not invent missing lines.

Ready when you are. Nothing is engraved until you’ve seen a proof and said yes.
